About company
Lea is the abbreviation for L andes E lter A CoMMittee. The State Parents Committee for Schools (LEA) serves to represent the school interests of the parents vis-à-vis the Senate Administration responsible for the school system as well as the preparation and coordination of the work in the State School Advisory Board. This is the legal definition for the work of the state parents' representatives from the twelve Berlin districts.
This makes the LEA the highest body for parent representatives in Berlin. The parent representatives in the LEA all work on a voluntary basis and by law must have a school child at a Berlin school. At this school, they are class parent representatives and thus a member of the general parents 'representative body (GEV) of their child's school and were elected by the members of this GEV to the district parents' committee (BEA) in the school's district. There they were then elected to the LEA by the parents' representatives of all other schools in a district. The Berlin state parents 'representatives are therefore always close to parents and parents' representatives on the various levels of the parenting bodies and have to master the time-related challenges associated with reconciling volunteering and family, as well as volunteering and work.
In the monthly meetings, the LEA members work on cross-district educational policy issues, in which, for example, speakers are invited, the individual LEA working groups present their results and positions, and decisions are made by the committee, which are addressed to the relevant Senate administration. In addition, there is an important exchange of information for the LEA members across the district boundaries.
How can you support us?
A special feature of the LEA are its working groups (AGs). The working groups are assigned to certain subject areas of the Berlin school landscape and are open to all interested persons. So if you don't want to get involved in committee work and are still interested in finding out more about a certain topic and / or want to help solve one or the other problem, you are very welcome to support us. The interface between the working groups and the LEA are the working group spokespersons. A working group spokesperson is a member of the LEA and reports regularly on the work of the working group and has the opportunity to submit proposals for resolutions in the LEA. You can find invitations to the AG meetings on our page under News. Which working groups exist and what content the working groups deal with,
What else is interesting?
The LEA works closely with the other state school bodies , i.e. the LSA - State Schools Committee , the LPP - State Committee of Educational Personnel , the LSB - State School Advisory Board and also the LEAK - State Parents Committee for day care centers .
